Stations
Fine Motor
In this court participants will be working on fine motor skills that are small movements such as picking up a pencil or holding a spoon. The use of small muscles in the fingers, toes, and wrists will be worked on through activities such as puzzles, playing in the ball pit, coloring, arts and crafts, playing with puppets, kitchen sets, tool boxes, mini BBQ, parachute and multiple target games such as bowling, target boards, obstacles courses and beanbag throws.
Gross Motor
In this court participants will be working on gross motor skills that are bigger movements such as rolling, jumping or squating. The use of large muscles in the arms, legs, torso, and feet will be executed through a fitness station, jumping onto a crash mat or on tampolines, imaginative play in the shapes station or in the gymnastic station.
Athletic Court
In this court there are a variety of sports equipment set up to improve inclusion, self esteem, reduce stigma and discrimination and empower children to recognize their own potential. Sports help integrate children from other schools and volunteers to play together that builds on teamwork, cooperative play and social skills. There are also board scooters that improve strength, core strength, stability, and balance from using their feet to propel them or on their bellies, using heir hands to scoot. This allows the child to explore their environment at their own pace and see the things they want to see, rather than being stuck in one spot.
Multi Media Room
In this room there video games such as Wii sports, DDR, and rock band that help kids adapt and be comfortable with the concepts of computing. Games that involve multiple players encourage children to work cooperatively to achieve their goals. The kids learn from listening one another’s ideas to formulate plans and distribute tasks based on skills. Video games improve on hand- eye coordination, decision making, concentration, memory, situational awareness, and multitasking, simultaneous tracking of many shifting variables and managing multiple objectives.
Sensory Room
The Sensory room is used as a relaxation and calming station for those who need a few minutes in a quiet, dim lighted room away from the different courts. There are sensory toys, blankets, pillows and mats for children to crawl around of lay down. The sensory toys allows the child to focus on the textures therefore further calming them down.
